PICS - Plant Information Computer System

This is the home of the PICS documentation. In July 2008 we moved the documentation from a set of static web pages to a collaborative platform so that our users may add their own insights, procedures and work-arounds, gleaned from actually using the software on a daily basis. We at EVI will do our best to keep the basic information about PICS up-to-date. We'll also contribute the occasional tip on how we think various features and tools might be used.

Jan 12, 2010

• VLB-100112 has been released and includes a couple of significant enhancements:
  • RTDBA now attempts to get an initial data set from another node at startup. This provides an immediate set of current data, without the delay necessary for all points to be scanned and/or refreshed by the providers.
  • When a data provider goes away, RTDBA can now mark the missing provider's points as stale and proxied and then refresh them that way until the provider returns. This will provider a much clearer indication when a building (or other provider) has gone off line.
  • TaskMon was enhanced to allow data providers to register, and to share registered provider information with other nodes. This feature works in conjunction with the new RTDBA proxy capability.

December 7, 2009

• Relatively minor software update release. The biggest change is the addition of the IPCAPI's ability to monitor process handles and automatically clean up after program that die or otherwise exit uncleanly.

November 9, 2009

• A major PICS software update has been released. This is the first release after Microsoft's summer update to the compiler and libraries -- so everything has changed slightly.
